President’s Update

Dear Ontario Young Liberals,

It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as your President, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to help grow and foster the youth movement of the Ontario Liberal Party.

When I assumed this role, we were already faced with the difficult situation of reacting to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Measures including restrictions surrounding the holding of OYL Riding and Campus Club AGMs, alongside AGMs for Provincial Liberal Associations (PLAs) and the Ontario Women’s Liberal Commission, were in place for a considerable stretch of time as the party worked to adjust to the new reality.

Thankfully, we were able to resume Student Club AGMs in the Spring of 2021, and we, as an executive, got straight to work to ensure our clubs were supported as they elected new executives under new circumstances. Since the reinstitution of Student Club AGMs, 11 campus clubs have held Annual General Meetings.

As a new executive is elected, I suggest to them that they work with the Executive Council of the OLP to also reinstate virtual Riding Club AGMs so that we can continue to support PLAs at the local level.

While the challenges that we faced were considerable, and the unprecedented length of term resulted in significant turnover within the Executive, I am happy with what we were able to accomplish as we faced unprecedented challenges.

Thank you once again, and I look forward to seeing everything the new executive accomplishes as they work to defeat Doug Ford in the next election.

Sincerely,

Francesca Cesario

Treasurer’s Update

Dear Ontario Young Liberals,

As I conclude my term as Treasurer, I wanted to provide an update on the organization’s finances and say thank you for the opportunity to serve Young Liberals across Ontario.

In traditional years, the majority of the organization’s expenses are incurred because of in-person events, such Summer Fling and campus recruitment. However, because of COVID-19 and the uncertainty it caused, we elected to not use our budget to ensure the OYL remained financially healthy as it remained unclear how the pandemic would unfold. The only items we continued to expense were those critical to our organizational infrastructure, such as web-related costs and Mailchimp.

I am happy to say that the OYL is in a strong financial position for when the next executive takes over, and I look forward to seeing a strong spring recruitment ahead of next year’s provincial election.

Sincerely,

Aqsa Naveed

Treasurer
